  • As you have just had a treatment which stimulates and increases the circulatory systems of your body, in particular the lymphatic system, we advise that you follow the aftercare advice. Doing so will maximize the benefits of your treatment and minimize the chances of experiencing a adverse reaction from a healing response.

    Hydration

It is vital to stay hydrated after reflexology treatment and the easiest way to do this is to drink water, light fruit juices or herbal teas throughout. Try to consume up to 2 litres per day. It is essential to do this to avoid headaches and nausea.

    Avoid Stimulants

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and recreational drugs. as your circulatory system and lymphatic system will have been stimulated and increased by the treatment, the effects of stimulants will be heightened.

    Food

Have a light, healthy meal(s) for the rest of the day and avoid spicy or greasy food that may put extra strain on the digestive system.

    Activity

Rest as much as possible for the rest of the day. Doing so will allow the treatment to work to its full potential and will allow your body to begin the balancing/healing process. Avoid doing anything stressful or strenuous, including physical activity and driving long distances, as you could feel more tired than usual. Also leave having a heat treatment such as sauna or a sunbed for at least 24 hours.

    Possible After effects

Following a treatment, your body will go on a ‘Healing response’. This is where the body rebalances and starts to eliminate toxins. In extreme circumstances you may experience a worsening of symptoms. A ‘healing Response’ is a vital process and a good sign, it means the body is repairing itself and this should pass within a day or two.

A follow up treatment will help speed up the process. If you do feel faint, vomit, or have diarrhea, please seek medical advice. You might notice that you need to use the loo more, you might need to go more urgently, or notice a change in consistency of your faeces. Emotions you might feel after a treatment include irritability or a tearfulness, or you may have a fit of giggles! Other reactions can include increased sweating or mucus in the nose, a slight rash, spots on the skin, you may feel more tired, deeply relaxed or have difficulty sleeping. You may also experience vivid dreams. Please keep a note of any side-effects you may have ans tell your therapist at your next treatment.
